Masonry Contractor in Inver Grove Heights
10 Years
Workmanship warranty, in writing
Most of Inver Grove Heights went up after 1970. But 2,759 homes here were built between 1940 and 1969, and a couple of hundred more before that, and those are the ones that keep us busy in this city.
So there are really two Inver Grove Heightses, and which one your house belongs to determines everything about your masonry needs and costs.
What We Get Called About
A brick front that has started to belly on the older housing
The 2,759 post-war homes here have the same wall ties as every other post-war house in this metro, and they are the same age.
Chimney crowns, on everything
Whichever half of the city you are in, the crown is the part of a chimney that has generally had nothing done to it, and there are now houses here from every decade since the war.
Front stoops and steps moving
Weighted to the newer subdivisions, where entries were commonly set on fill.
Retaining walls on the sloped ground
The bluff side of the city is not flat, and a good deal of it is terraced.
Lintels above openings
A detail common to both halves, because steel angle over a window did not change much between 1955 and 1995.
What We Do In Inver Grove Heights
Two housing eras, so two sets of descriptions. Tell us the year the house was built and we will know which conversation we are having.
Brick veneer and wall-tie repair on the post-war housing
For the roughly 2,759 homes built between 1940 and 1969. Our brick repair page covers the mechanism; what matters locally is that these houses are old enough for it and the newer four-fifths of the city mostly are not.
Crowns and raincaps, on housing of every decade
The one job here that does not care when your house was built. A 1958 stack and a 1998 stack have both had long enough for the top to matter.
Lintel replacement
Rusted steel out, masonry above supported and relaid.
Front stoop and step rebuild
On footings taken to depth, because in the newer subdivisions the fault is nearly always what the entry was set on.
Retaining wall repair in natural stone
On the sloped and bluff-side ground. Existing stone reused. Modular block systems are not something we install.
Foundation and basement work where the housing is old enough to need it
Concentrated in the older group. On post-1970 construction, the foundation is rarely the problem.
Chimney repair and rebuild
The published rule applies. On this city's mix of ages, it lands on repair more often than rebuild.
A River Bluff City With Its Rock Mostly Out Of Reach
Inver Grove Heights runs down to the Mississippi, and the eastern Dakota County geology here is Prairie du Chien dolostone surviving as mesas and buttes above eroded sandstone, with real exposures on the river bluffs.
That gives the city something unusual in this part of the metro: rock you can actually see. What it did not give it was a stone-building tradition, because the city built almost all of its housing after quarried stone had stopped being used for foundations anywhere.
So the honest description of masonry here is: modern construction on a genuinely interesting piece of ground. Poured concrete and block below grade, brick veneer above it, and an older group of post-war housing where the brick was hung the way it was hung everywhere in the 1950s.
What It Costs
No travel charge and no minimum job size, which in a city with two housing eras and a wide spread of job sizes matters more than it sounds.
Because this city has two housing eras, the relevant number depends on which one you are in. On the newer four-fifths, it is usually chimney work: about $3,500 for a repair on a single-story, around $5,500 for a crown rebuild. On the older pocket, it is brick and foundations: from $1,500 for minor replacement, to $2,200 for a section of interior repointing.
Every one of those is a starting point. Sam gives you the real number after he has seen it, and the visit costs nothing.
Every one of those figures depends on square footage and on what we find when we look. They are rough guides to help you decide whether to call, not quotes. The exact number comes after the visit, and the visit is free.

Common Questions In Inver Grove Heights
It depends on which house you have. Nearly 3,000 homes here predate 1970, and the median is not describing them. If yours is one of those, you have post-war brick and post-war problems.
Yes, and unusually you can see it. The bluffs above the Mississippi expose the rock here. It did not end up in housing because the city was built after quarried stone had stopped being used.
Usually, in natural stone, using what is there. If it is modular block, we are not the company, and we will say so on the phone rather than after a visit.
No. There is no travel charge anywhere in our service area and no minimum job size.
Most of what we do here is on newer houses. Crowns, lintels, stoops, and retaining walls are the masonry a modern house has, and they are what fails on it.
Not a real one, and we would be careful of anyone who offers one. Coming to look costs you nothing, and there is no travel charge either way.
